WINNING THE BATTLE AGAINST A BRAIN TUMOR IN HER BRAINSTEM AT THE AGE OF 84

9.5 years ago, Sunarti's mother (at that time was 75 years old) was paralysed, bedridden, on a feeding tube only and relying on an oxygen tank. She could not stand and had difficulty speaking. The MRI results showed a mixed cystic neoplasm suspect epidermoid tumor and solid malignant mass attached to the right brainstem with approximately 4 cm. The mass position of the tumor pressing on the brainstem and narrowing the fourth ventricle causes hydrocephalus (MRI 4/7/12). Her initial condition was weak, and the tumor's attachment to the brainstem posed a high risk for medical intervention (surgery/radiation). There are no traditional treatments suitable for her due to her age and the tumour position. ECCT is the last resort for her.

After a few months of using the device, Sunarti's mother started to be able to sit up, her left limb began to move, and she started eating without a tube anymore. After a while, her breathing became smoother, and she did not need oxygen anymore. She also began to learn to stand, and her ability to stand up was getting better; talking was getting easier month by month. The MRI after 4 months of ECCT use (11/1/13) indicates a slight reduction in the mass, and hydrocephalus is no longer visible, indicating that the mass no longer compresses the brain's fluid channels (fourth ventricle). The results of Brain scan and the latest clinical condition are highly normal.

After the use of ECCT, the patient gradually improved and has remained stable until now (as of 2023). In 2023, 9.5 years later, at the age of 84, Sunarti's mother's condition is much better. Her left limb, eating, speech and breathing have all returned to normal. (From the notes of Mrs Nanik Sunarti, daughter of Mrs. Sunarti).
