The greatest challenge for a cancer patient may not be the unbearable pain, whether from the cancer itself or the grueling treatments they must endure. The biggest trial is often "acceptance"—coming to terms with a condition where nothing more seems possible except to wait. Waiting without hope, without any certainty of improvement, can be more agonizing than the pain caused by the disease itself.
