Sae (a pseudonym) and her husband were initially in disbelief when doctors diagnosed her with cancer. Over the years, MRI scans of Sae's mother showed progressive improvement, especially following 2019, which influenced Sae’s and her husband’s outlook.
In May 2014, 9.5 years ago, Sae’s MRI results revealed clustered foreign tissue in her breast with surrounding small spreads. A biopsy confirmed a malignant diagnosis. Her physician in Tokyo suggested the conventional treatment: a radical mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiation. However, the doctor warned that her specific cancer type was chemo- and radio-resistant, with a high likelihood of recurrence and metastasis, even with surgery. Her tumour type was a hard structure, rapid growth, and ease of metastasis. Within six months, the tumor had doubled in size.
Seeking alternatives, Sae and her husband consulted another physician in Osaka. In early October, they found a doctor specializing in immune therapy who proposed a treatment plan that excluded surgery and chemotherapy. This approach involved ECCT in combination with immune therapy.
Intrigued by the potential of ECCT, Sae and her husband committed to it, recognizing it as their best chance to treat breast cancer without surgery and chemotherapy. Between 2014 and 2019, her cancer remained relatively stable, showing neither significant improvement nor worsening, and importantly, no metastasis. However, substantial progress began in late 2019. By the following year, MRIs indicated a near 50% reduction in the cancer mass, and subsequent MRIs showed a steady reduction to the point of near-clearance.
Remarkably, throughout her decade-long journey with cancer, Sae has maintained her general health and vitality, with no outward signs of serious illness. She has not required painkillers or anti-inflammatory medications, which are commonly used among cancer patients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sae remained unaffected despite her husband testing positive for the virus while they shared a household.
By the end of 2024, nearly ten years after her initial diagnosis, MRI results showed a significantly diminished tumor mass, with only minimal residual spots detectable.
